Wooden Spools Make Delightful Tree Ornaments
Use Fabric, Paper, Lace or Ribbon to Add Color to Your Ornaments!
All it takes is a little creativity to turn wooden spools into charming ornaments. Depending on the size of the spools and the number used they will be darling hanging from a tree or standing just about anywhere.
Vintage wooden spools with thread on them will make colorful ornaments. You can also use new spools and wrap them with lace, ribbon, fabric, paper, or whatever else strikes your fancy.

Use a hot glue gun to glue the spools together while laying flat. Allow the ornaments to firm up before you hold them upright.
We have two tutorials to spark your creativity. You’ll want to read through them both and decide how to craft your own special spool ornaments.
The first tutorial from Shaken Together is for making a tree ornament from spools. The designer wrapped the spools with colorful paper but fabric strips will work too. Use mod podge to hold the fabric in place around the spools.
Notice the hanger made of twine, the cute wooden star, and the red jingle bell accents.
The second tutorial is for a slightly larger ornament for displaying on a table or shelf (it’s about 7″ tall). April from Cup of Delight wrapped spools with scraps of ribbon and lace. She had vintage spools on hand but new ones will be nice too. You might experiment with aging new spools by brushing them lightly with a thinned stain or brown acrylic paint thinned heavily with water.
