Dresden Plate Quilt Block Tutorial
Just Follow the Steps and You’ll Soon Have a Perfect Quilt Block!
Dresden Plate Blocks have so many uses but the thought of actually making one can be scary if you’ve never done it before. That’s why we were delighted to discover this tutorial from Southern Fabric.
The tutorial is fully illustrated and walks you through every step. Follow along and soon you’ll have a gorgeous Dresden Plate Block to use in a wall hanging or throw pillow – or make several for a quilt.
You can use scraps for the wedges on your Dresden Plate Block, or choose coordinated fabrics such as shown in the tutorial. The included tips show you how to get perfect points every time.
Once the wedges have been sewn together, layer them on the background fabric and add the center circle. Stitch everything in place using an applique stitch (blanket stitch, feather stitch, tight zig zig, etc.).
Soon you’ll have a finished quilt block to use however you choose. We especially like this little wall quilt from Me and Madeleine (via Southern Fabric).
To produce something similar, simply layer your finished block with batting and backing, quilt and bind.
