Make (Almost) Random Patchwork with Strip Piecing
A Great Tip to Keep on Hand!
Does a pattern you’re working on require creating a section of randomized patchwork squares? Surprisingly, strip-piecing can do the trick with less time and effort than sewing each square separately.
Strip-piecing is often used for making several identical units (like 9-patch blocks). However, with a slight modification strips can be created that give the impression of random placement.
While the patches won’t actually be random, by mixing up how patchwork strips cut from the strip sets are put together you’ll achieve the impression of randomness.
Strips of squares, created from a strip set, ready to be mixed up and sewn together. Use more than one strip set (each with different fabric placement) for greater randomness.
That’s not what we usually expect from strip piecing so enjoy having this surprising time saver in your tool box. Just tuck this tip away for when you need it.
