Make Them in Other Seasonal Colors, Too!

Mix sunny solids to make these cheerful hexie coasters. They’re perfect for drinks on the patio or for giving your kitchen a bright pick-me-up. While they were designed for summer, they’ll be fun to use all year around.

We can easily imagine them in red, white and blue for the 4th of July, and in Christmas colors as well.

The tutorial provides excellent instructions for making English paper pieced hexies. If you haven’t tried them before this is a good project to begin with.

Pre-cut hexies in solid fabrics are specified in the instructions. Search Google for them, as the listed source is out of stock. You may need to purchase an assortment of solid fabrics and cut your own. A charm pack would work well for this.

To make your own cutting template, use the hexie template that’s provided. Transfer it to card stock or other heavy paper (or thin cardboard) and add 1/4″ on all edges for the seam allowance. Cut out the shape and use it for cutting out hexies.

Or, purchase a good hexie ruler, such as the Fons and Porter Hexagon Ruler, to make short work of cutting hexies from strips.

The hexies in this project are 2″ on each side.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
