Use QAYG to Create This Log Cabin Block with a Twist

Instructions Are Provided for Turning QAYG Blocks Into a Quilt!

Strips of fabric create a charming block using the Quilt-As-You-Go method. The block is essentially a Log Cabin block set on point, with two compatible colors providing contrast between the halves.

You can finish the block for a lovely table mat or use it in a bag, pillow, or other project. Or make a quilt using several blocks.

Since you quilt the blocks as you make them, it’s a quick project to turn them into a quilt once the blocks are done. Instructions are included for sewing the blocks together and adding the backing (this method can be used for any QAYG block). Quilt layout examples are also provided.

Four blocks sewn together.

This is a fun block because there are so many design options. Fussy cut the center square, or not, change the values and their placements to alter the look, and play with block layouts to create a one-of-a-kind quilt. And, of course, the block is charming in any color palette.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
