This Easy Topper is Pretty in Colors for Any Season
A Quick and Easy Project Even for Beginning Quilters!
This beautiful topper is an easy project that is perfect for your autumn table. It’s also a simple one to make and won’t take long at all to finish up.
It’s very similar to the wonderful Halloween topper by Taunja Kelvington of Carried Away Quilting that we love so much (see Taunja’s topper here). The difference is in the use of autumn fabrics instead of those for Halloween, plus the borders and sashing are slightly different widths.
They are quilted differently, too. Both projects start with 2 1/2″ fabric squares. Between the two, you have lots of inspiration for creating your own charming version.
This autumn mini, by Amy Smart of Diary of a Quilter, showcases beautiful fall fabrics against a neutral background. We love the plaid binding. At first glance, it almost looks like rick rack, which would be a fun finish (layer, stitch and turn it inside out, rather than bind it). See more photos of this topper here.
Amy’s tutorial features a version made up in red, white and pink for Valentine’s Day. Simply switch to Christmas fabrics for a lovely topper to use over the holidays. This will also be pretty in just about any color combo for use all year around.
The finished topper is about 23″ square.
