April 23, 2025 | Paper Piecing, Quilt Blocks
| Multiple Sizes Mean It Can Be Used In Many Types of Projects!
This striking Sawtooth Star block variation will create a stunning quilt. Play with layouts to create an overall quilt design you love.
The dark/light contrasts of this block are similar to those of Log Cabin blocks, so consider the many Log Cabin block layout options when designing your project. You’ll find several suggestions here.
Since there are many block sizes to choose from, the block can be used in many types of projects. It will be striking in any color theme and many fabric styles.
For precision, foundation paper piecing is used to construct the block. You’ll find excellent FPP instructions here.
Designer Ingrid Alteneder from Joe June and Mae provides instructions for several block sizes:
- 4“x 4“ (4 ½“x 4 ½“ unfinished)
- 5“x 5“ (5 ½“x 5 ½“ unfinished)
- 6“x 6“ (6 ½“x 6 ½“ unfinished)
- 8”x 8” (8 ½“x 8 ½“ unfinished)

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
