Give An Irish Chain a Sweet Twist

It’s a Beautiful Quilt for Someone Special!

A classic Irish Chain quilt is updated with sweet hearts scattered throughout. The result is a pretty quilt that will be lovely in whichever of the five sizes you choose to make.

Start with small-scale or tone-on-tone prints in colors you enjoy. Notice how the designer varied the colors used in the chain, yet it appears to be blue. The variations add interest while helping to incorporate the colorful hearts.

Cheery Chain Quilt Pattern

Play with color for your own version and don’t forget to consider other backgrounds. Black or gray will really make the chain and hearts pop.

This quilt is great for just about any quilting style. Show off your free motion quilting or go with an attractive straight-line design using your walking foot.

Instructions are provided by the designer, Robin Gump from Seamed to Be, for quilts in five sizes:

  • 44″ x 44″ – Baby
  • 53″ x 62″ – Throw
  • 70″ x 88″ – Twin
  • 88″ x 105″ – Queen
  • 105″ x 105″ King

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
