How to Make Star Sashing
A Lovely Way to Dress Up Quilt Blocks!
Sashing that comes together to form a star is an easy variation of sashing with cornerstones. It adds a special touch to whatever quilt it’s used in. In fact, you can create a simple, yet beautiful, quilt just from squares of fabric and star sashing.
The sashing is simple to construct and you don’t need to be concerned about matching star points. Once you see how it goes together you’ll wonder why you haven’t tried this before (or more often!).
Erica from Confessions of a Homeschooler has provided an excellent tutorial. She used 2 1/2″ strips for each sashing piece, resulting in a 2″ wide sashing between blocks.
Notice how she used this sashing between blocks in the beautiful patriotic quilt below.
At the bottom of Erica’s tutorial you’ll find instructions for the quilt shown above. The flag and star blocks are from Lori Holt’s Farm Girl Vintage book.
