Get Perfect Corners Every Time!

Many quilts have piano key borders, as they’re a wonderful finish that ties a quilt together. However, the corners need to be nicely mitered to look right.

Fortunately, Jennifer from Shabby Fabrics has created an excellent tutorial for mitering corners in a piano key border. The process is a bit tricky, but just follow her instructions and you’re sure to get good results.

In the video she references another video. There is some very helpful information there, as well, so take the time to watch it too. While it focuses on mitering striped fabric, she goes into the basics that are good to know when mitering any border.

One tip is that for mitered corners it works best to sew the inner and outer borders together before attaching either to the quilt. That way both are mitered at the same time.

There’s a companion written tutorial available for mitering piano key borders that’s available as a free download. You’ll find it here.

The quilts shown in the videos are from kits that are no longer available.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
