“Snow Flowers” by Susan Stewart is a gorgeous wholecloth quilt combining machine embroidery, applique, lace inserts, crystals and exquisite quilting. It won a 1st place ribbon at AQS Paducah 2014, and Best Machine Workmanship at AQS Albuquerque 2015.
In the following video Susan explains how she made and applied the cut-out lace sections. She stitched embroidery designs from Zundt on water soluble stabilizer and combined them to create the lace.
The following video tells more of the story of this quilt. Perseverance was key to to seeing it to completion.
Susan has created several beautiful quilts using machine embroidery and/or her embroidered lace technique. Here are some examples. You’ll find more of her quilts using embroidery designs here.
Consider machine embroidery for giving your next quilt a special touch. Whether it’s created as lace or simply stitched on a patch, the artistry of embroidery can take a quilt to the next level.
