Make a Quilt Sparkle with Crystals and Gems

This Special Embellishment is So Easy to Do!

You may have seen quilts at shows with a bit of sparkle added in the form of gems or crystals. It’s wonderful how the light catches them, giving the quilt a whole new dimension.

While you wouldn’t want to do this with a quilt you want to cuddle with, crystals and gems can be a beautiful finishing touch for wall and table quilts.

How to Add Crystals to a Quilt

In the following video Laura from Sew Very Easy demonstrates adding gems and crystals to a quilt she made from a holiday panel. Both the design and the metallic threads work beautifully with the sparkling enhancements. However, this technique will be wonderful with many quilt and fabric styles.

To do this you’ll need hotfix crystals or gems plus an applicator tool. The tool heats up and melts the adhesive on the back of the gems so they’ll affix to the fabric.

Both the tool and the gems can be found at craft stores. Or, review the selection at Amazon:

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
