Black Gingham Adds Farmhouse Style and Charm!

This beautiful block will be so pretty in a quilt project. Incorporate it into a table runner, a wall quilt, or make several for a larger project. The block itself can also be finished off into a small quilt with or without added borders.

Traditional small-scale prints are given a farmhouse twist with the inclusion of black gingham. That unexpected choice ramps up the charm considerably.

Easy piecing is used to construct the block itself. Even though the center square has curved edges there’s no curved piecing involved.

Wool is used for the appliqued berries and leaves, which are embellished with embroidery. Quilting cotton will work nicely too. Or, if you dislike applique, the block will still be charming if you exclude them altogether.

The finished block, designed by Vicki McCarty from Calico Patch Designs, is 12″ square.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
