Make Pretty Coasters and More from Hexie Hearts

A Great Project for Scraps, and for Gifts!

Pretty little hearts adorn the centers of these hexagon coasters. The hearts are cut out so that underlying fabrics show through, rather than being appliqued on top as you might expect.

This is a simple project and the hexies can be used for other projects as well. Stitch some to a tote, sew several together for a table topper, or include them in a quilt project.

You might also consider changing the heart to another shape. Or, enlarge the pattern for pot holders and more. This pattern and the technique are very versatile so have fun with them!

It’s also a wonderful project for scraps. Choose a nice combination for your coaster set, making them all the same or coordinating fabric styles and colors to form a set.

Each hexagon, from the tutorial at Cosmo Cricket, is about 4″ across the flat sides.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
