Try Something New with This Sweet Runner!

This pretty runner is reminiscent of vintage doilies and Valentine cards. It’s an easy project you’ll enjoy displaying for many years to come.

Patchwork hearts are outlined with “doilies” against a mottled deep red background fabric. A pretty stripe adds interest between the blocks.

Of course, you can change the coloring to suit your tastes. Just make sure the background you choose has enough contrast to show off the white doily. Or, make the doily detail dark against a light background for an entirely different look.

If you’ve not worked with wool felt before, this project gives you a chance to try it out. Rather than create the white doily with cotton quilt fabric, white wool felt is used instead. That speeds construction considerably as you won’t need to stitch around all those little holes (created with a paper punch) that create the “doily” effect.

The finished runner is 12 1/2″ x 53″.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
