This Dresden Placemat is Also a Pretty Table Topper

This pretty Dresden circle was designed as a placemat. We’d love to use one as a table topper. Won’t it be lovely under a tall vase of flowers?
The finished placemat appears to be about 12 inches across. You may want to make it somewhat larger for use as a placemat (so there’s room for silverware). The construction remains the same. Just cut the blades a bit longer. Or, make them up as is for a set of lovely “chargers” to showcase dinner plates.
Notice how the Dresden blades vary in length and shape. That gives the outside edge a scalloped look. The quilting around the outside edge can be done by hand or machine.
A variety of fabrics and scraps from your stash, all of similar value, will be charming in this project.
Construction is fairly simple and is done by machine with a bit of hand applique (which could be done by machine). Plus, the place mat is turned so there’s no binding to deal with.
