Strip Piecing Simplifies the Process!

Strips of fabric become a lovely Dresden Plate that can be used so many ways. Applique it to a square background for a quilt block that will be lovely in the center of a small wall or table quilt.

Add a pieced border to continue the theme or simply finish it off with binding. Or go ahead and make several blocks for a larger project.

Or applique it to a round piece of fabric and finish it off with biased binding for a pretty table topper. You could even sew it face down to layered batting and backing, sew around the outside edges and turn it for a pointy table centerpiece.

To make the Dresden Plate you’ll need an 18 degree wedge ruler that’s at least 8″ long. The EZ Dresden Ruler works perfectly (find it here). You’ll make 20 wedges to create the full Dresden Plate.

The finished Dresden Plate, designed by Lurline from Lurline’s Place, is about 17″ across.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
