Versatile Quilt Pattern Has Many Moods
This Quilt’s Unusual Color Scheme is a Knockout!
This beautiful “Main Street” quilt by Annette Matthies can be easily varied to suit your mood, decor, or a particular season. Annette used batik fabrics in hers, to great effect.
This pattern is a great one for jelly rolls, bali pops and other 2 1/2″ pre-cut strips. Annette used a batik roll that contained lime, turquoise, blue and purple fabrics. She combined her batiks with regular quilting cottons for the white background and turquoise accent.
The quilt was machine quilted with lime green thread, which looks great on both the white background and batiks.
The following version of the pattern is made up in cheery solid fabrics. We love the mood it conveys. A quilt made from patterned fabric scraps would have an even homier patchwork feel.
For a more dramatic quilt, consider the colors chosen for this version.
We can easily imagine cool solid colored fabrics, such as the colors in the first quilt, with a black background, creating the look of an Amish quilt.
“Main Street” was designed by Sassafras Lane Designs. It’s made up of two block patterns, and has a traditional feel with a modern twist.
