What Will You Put in the Center of Your Blocks?

This pretty quilt caught our eye because the centers of the blocks provide so many creative options. In this case, the cute bunnies were created with kids’ crayons on white fabric (and the wax melted away).

However, we can easily imagine embroidered motifs from vintage linens used in the centers. Vintage hankies could work, as well.

It's a Bunny's Life Baby Quilt Pattern

Or perhaps you have an applique motif or embroidery pattern you want to use (make the blocks all the same or each one different). Family photos printed on fabric are another option. You can even leave the centers plain and fill them with a beautiful quilting design.

There are so many things you can do with this quilt that we tend to think of it as a basic template that can be adapted to showcase just about anything.

Of course, you can also make it up as the designer intended by using kids’ crayons to “color” the 12 blocks showing a bunny’s life throughout the year. Full instructions are included, as well as coloring sheets to trace. Your kids or grand kids will have fun helping with this project, and you’ll have a lovely baby or child’s quilt to give once it’s done.

The piecing for this quilt is quite simple and can be done with scraps and other goodies from your stash. Select colors that accent whatever you want to put in the block centers without overwhelming them.

The finished quilt, from Golden Thimble, is 40″ by 52″. You can easily add more blocks for a larger quilt.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
