Warm Up Winter with This Cozy Little Quilt
It’s Easy Enough for Beginning Quilters!
When days start getting shorter and the wind has a bite to it I often want to snuggle in something red. That can be a sweater, robe, quilt … whatever. Red is such a warming color that even looking at something red seems to fight off chills.
Needless to say, red and white (or tan) quilts are long-time favorites, as is just about any quilt with red as the predominant color.
This little quilt was probably designed as a doll quilt but it will be so lovely on a wall or table. It evokes the warmth of a cozy fire and all the wonderful scents of baked goods, soups and spices that waft from the kitchen during the winter.
It’s simple to make, too. Squares and Flying Geese units create the overall pattern. The designer, Cindy Sharp, recommends candy charms (“2 1/2″ squares) and charm squares (5″). Layer cake squares (10”) also work, or cut yardage from your stash.
Whether you use pre-cut fabrics or cut your own, any fabric combination you love will look great in this quilt, even if it isn’t red! This would also be great as a little patchwork scrap quilt.
The finished quilt is about 30″ x 38″. The pattern can be easily altered to produce a table runner or a larger quilt.
