Woven Heart Blocks Make a Lovely Runner

This woven heart block is so pretty and can be used in many projects. Patterned after the much loved Scandinavian heart ornaments (see the fabric version here) the blocks have all the charm of the ornaments plus can be given many personalities through fabric choices.

The designer found the blocks so addictive that she put four together into a lovely table runner. Simply add borders, layer, bind and quilt for your own woven hearts runner.

The blocks go together easily with strip piecing and simple turned edge fusible applique. Then they’re set on point with triangles.

The finished blocks will be lovely in a baby quilt, throw or bed sized quilt. Or put four together in a square for a table topper.

The finished block, designed by Julie Cefalu from The Crafty Quilter, is 9 1/2″ square.
