Flatware Pockets Simplify Outdoor Dining
They’ll Dress Up Indoor Dining, As Well!
Warm weather brings the enjoyment of outdoor meals, whether on your porch, patio, or at a picnic table in the backyard or at a park. Eating outside does present some challenges, however.
Pretty flatware pockets solve many of them. They keep utensils together, clean and easy to transport (fill the pockets, stack and carry). These are big enough for either plastic or stainless flatware and have room for a napkin.
Plus, you can set the pockets down on a bare surface if there are no place mats or tablecloth available. Better yet, make simple matching place mats like those shown in the photos (a large plain quilted rectangle with a pretty wide binding).
Choose a nice combination of coordinating fabrics for the pockets. These are trimmed with twill tape along the top edge of each pocket. Rick rack and other trim will be lovely too.
The finished pockets, designed by Alicia Thommas from Sew 4 Home, are about 5½” wide x 10″ high.
