Scrap Jar Stars Shine with Personality
Use Those Scraps You’ve Been Saving to Make a Magnificent Quilt!
If you’re a quilter, you surely have fabric scraps. While it’s nice to use a few here and there, it’s even nicer to make an entire quilt from scraps. Not only will it make a big dent in your stockpile, but in the process, you’ll create a personal one-of-a-kind quilt.
The “Scrap Jar Stars” quilt by Amber at Gigi’s Thimble is a great pattern for your scrappy quilt.
First of all, it’s gorgeous. We love the red, blue and white theme, but you can choose whatever colors you prefer. Or, forget about coordinating colors and create a fun, all-colors quilt!
Also, your quilt can have a retro look, or be ultra-modern, depending on the fabrics you choose.

Another reason we love this pattern is that you can easily alter the size of the quilt by adjusting the number of blocks.
Four blocks make a lovely table topper, like the one shown above by @pleasant.home, or a wall hanging like shown below.
Amber’s quilt finished at 81″ x 93″ but yours can be considerably smaller if that works better for you.
The following quilt by Jodi Nelson of Pleasant Home uses just six blocks and no sashing, making it ideal for a baby quilt. Don’t you love the pieced inner border? That border treatment will be lovely on a larger version too.
And, finally, the block itself is beautiful and gives you many options for playing with color and mixing fabrics. Plus, the instructions show you how to make 4 half-square triangles at a time. Nice.
Notice how in the quilt above Northen Deb added sashing with nine-patch crosses to give the quilt an entirely different look. Learn more about how it was made here.
This fun version from Lisa Chavez, made without sashing, shows how the quilt can look with each star made in a different color.
“Scrap Jar Stars” is lovely in seasonal colors, too. This version, also by Jodi of Pleasant Home, gives us an idea of how it will look in Christmas colors.
Scraps all of one color are beautiful too, as in this version by Cathy from A Quilting Chick.
Give your creativity full reign, pull out your scraps and make your own stunning “Scrap Jar Stars” quilt! One unfinished block is 12 1/2″ square.
A pattern is available that includes efficient cutting instructions for 4 quilt sizes (not just one block) and modified block instructions so there are fewer seams. Purchase it here.
