Create Better Bindings with Tips from a Quilt Show Judge
It’s All About Extending the Life of Your Quilt!
Whether you already enter quilt shows, want to enter shows, or quilt just because you love to quilt, there’s much you can learn from quilt show judges. One area that judges tend to pay special attention to is bindings.
In an informative article, NQA Certified Judge Stacey Koehler comments:
“What’s the big deal with judges and the binding? Seriously, if I could look back on all the comment sheets I’ve dictated over the past 13 years, probably 95% of them have a binding comment on them and the other 5% would have some other edge finishing remark.”
She goes on to explain why bindings receive so much attention from judges. While the quality of a binding says much about the quiltmaker’s artistry and skills, it’s also the quilt’s first line of defense against wear and tear.
