Finish One for a Mini or Combine Several for a Larger Quilt!

String-piecing makes short work of this charming 8-point star block. Plus, it’s a great opportunity to use up thin scraps of fabric.

The star was designed to use mostly 1″ wide strips in a variety of fabrics, although strips of varying widths would also work. Notice that there’s a solid white ring toward the center that helps unify the block. Choose another color if you prefer a stronger accent.

Paper was used by the designer for the foundation. However, you could also use a lightweight fabric and omit having to remove the paper from the string-pieced segments.

Combine several blocks for a quilt, with or without sashing in between. Or sew three blocks together end-to-end for a runner. There are many other ways the block can be used, too.

The completed block, designed by Corey from Coriander Quilts, is 12″ square.
