Make Cute Hand Warmers in Your Favorite Colors
They’re Darling Toys and Pot Holders, Too!
These cute penguins are darling hand warmers. Fill them with rice, pop them in the microwave for a bit, and they’ll warm hands as well as tight muscles and other areas that would benefit from a heating pad. Just be sure to use cotton everything, as poly melts.
They also make sweet toys. Just fill with poly for easy cuddling. They’ll be extra fun made up to match a quilt.
Another option is to skip the filling and turn them into hot pads or pot holders. Just add a layer of Insul-Bright batting when sewing them together (layer with the front facing up, then the back facing down and the batting on top). Sew around the outside, leaving an opening for turning. Once turned, quilt around the white face and topstitch around the outside edges.
These finish quickly, are perfect for scraps and make great gifts.
The finished hand warmers, designed by Lisa Summerhays from Stubbornly Crafty, are 7″ tall by 6″ wide (without the wings).
