Create a Loving Memory Quilt from Men’s Shirts
It’s a Great Gift for a Man, Too!
This wonderful quilt was made from men’s shirts and denim. It’s a lovely memory quilt that will be treasured for years.
Or make one for your favorite guy. You can also use your favorite colors for a quilt to enjoy every Valentine’s day (inexpensive shirts of all colors can be found at thrift stores or use quilting cotton).
The sweet design will be great in any color palette. Change the background to work nicely with the shirt colors.
Patches from men’s shirts are fused to denim using Wonder Under, leaving thin strips of denim showing through. Then zig zag stitch around the edges to tack everything down.
The designer, Anita Bradshaw, layered the quilt up first so that the zig zag stitching also provided the quilting. That’s a great way to finish the quilt quickly.
The completed quilt is 32″ x 32″, perfect for a wall.
We can’t help but imagine it in a throw quilt size for cuddling. Double the size of all the pieces for a throw (subtract the seam allowances first, then add them back when the patch size has been doubled). If denim will be too stiff, consider using chambray (you’ll find a nice variety of chambray prints here and here) or a quilting cotton.
