Make Them Up in Felt or Quilting Cotton!

This charming little gnome can be made entirely by hand (or by machine, if you prefer). It’s perfect for working on during chilly evenings in front of a movie.

Add a hanging cord for an ornament to display on the tree or attach to gifts. It can also be stuffed into a stocking or combined with other goodies in a fabric basket.

Felt Gnome Ornament Pattern

Gnomes have long been part of Scandinavian folklore and have evolved into benevolent beings that deliver gifts at Christmas (learn more here). We’ve seen many cute renditions but this is one of the easiest to construct.

If you don’t like hand sewing, the felt can be stitched up by machine. Or, experiment with using quilting cotton. Add seam allowances and plan on turning the ornaments for stuffing so there are no raw edges.

The finished size is not provided by the designer, Elena Remova, but it appears to be 5″ – 6″ tall.

While any type of felt can be used, wool felt is likely to wear better. You’ll find a nice selection here. Or choose five 9″ x 12″ sheets of your specified colors here.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
