Enjoy This Sweet Pot Holder Every Easter
It Also Makes Charming Gifts!
A cute baby chick popping from a decorated egg makes a darling pot holder or hot pad. It’s a fun project perfect for Easter, whether you use one or more for Easter brunch or make several to send home with guests.
It’s also easy to make and puts those decorative stitches on your machine to good use. The instructions are a little different than you might expect. Bias tape is used for the stripes on the egg and the top of the egg and the head of the chick are sewn together along gentle curves (or not – keep reading!).
However, you can skip sewing curves by using fusible web to fuse the egg to an oval piece of yellow (the chick). Finish the edge with a blanket stitch. The stripes can be thin strips of fabric also applied with fusible applique and use hand or machine stitches for the facial features.
Add a layer of Insul-Bright and one of cotton quilt batting for heat-proofing. Finish the edges with a standard bias binding.
The completed potholder, designed by Linda Turner Griepentrog for Coats & Clark and provided by Yarnspirations, is 7″ x 9″.
