This Beautiful Quilt Was Designed for Beginners
Experienced Quilters Will Love How Easy It Goes Together!
A fresh and clever take on the traditional Economy block (Square-in-a-Square block) is used to make this beautiful quilt. The squares “float” in the block so you don’t need to match points. And it’s impossible to cut them off when sewing blocks together. That makes this ideal for beginners.
The quilt takes 21 fat quarters. Three fat quarters will yield 6 of the 9″ (finished) blocks. This is a great project for using a bundle you have on hand or create your own combination from single fat quarters. Of course, the quilt will be beautiful in any pleasing color palette.
Squares are cut on the diagonal to create the triangles. That means the outer edges will be on the bias and a bit stretchy. Starch your fabric before cutting and handle the pieces gently to minimize the stretch.

The completed quilt, designed by Taunja Kelvington from Carried Away Quilting, is 68 1/2” x 77 1/2”. You can easily adjust the size by altering the number of blocks (and adjusting the borders accordingly). The blocks can be used in other projects that specify 9″ finished Economy blocks, as well.
