Make This Pretty Cookie Plate Quilt in Your Favorite Colors
Excellent Instructions Are Provided for Two Finishing Methods!
This beautiful little quilt is perfectly sized for catching crumbs from a plate of cookies or other treats (hence the name, “Crumb Catcher”). It can also be used as a centerpiece for the table, perhaps with a vase of flowers, or as a placemat.
Any color theme is beautiful in the quilt. You may have seen an earlier version in pretty Christmas colors (see it and several color options here). It’s a great project for scraps or fat eighths plus a fat quarter for the backing.
While the hexagon shape makes it stand out, the quilt is constructed from simple piecing. That makes it doable for quilters of most skill levels.
For this new version, the designer provides excellent instructions for two finishing options. The quilt can be bound the traditional way or finished with a self-binding (also known as the “pillowcase” method).
Left – Traditional Binding. Right – Self-Binding.
A self-binding is quicker, easier, and makes the quilt look more like a placemat than a quilt. It may be our finishing method of choice.
The tutorials can be used to finish other projects as well.
Once completed, the “Crumb Catcher” designed by Julie Cefalu from The Crafty Quilter is 15″ in diameter.
