Make a Beautiful Dresden Plate for a Wall or Table

Master Dresden Plate Construction with an Excellent Tutorial!
Do you love Dresden Plates but hesitate to try making one? Or, have you had less than satisfactory results in the past?
While Dresden Plates may have a bit of a bad rep, it’s worth taking the time to master them. Amber from Gigi’s Thimble has created an excellent tutorial to help you achieve beautiful results.
Her secret is the EZ Dresden Ruler by Darlene Zimmerman. It takes away all the guesswork and produces nice, flat Dresden Plates (provided you sew consistent 1/4″ seams!).
The tutorial shows how to make one large Dresden Plate. Notice that there’s no circle over the center, so it has points on both the outside and the inside of the blades.
The plate is hand- or machine-stitched to a background. Notice that Amber’s background is generously sized, but make your background whatever size works for your project. She used Appli-Glue by Jilily Studio to tack the plate down so it stayed in place while stitching. Dots of washable school glue also work.
Finish your Dresden Plate into a wall hanging, large throw pillow, or table quilt. Amber’s husband made a 26″ square wooden frame for hers.
Amber doesn’t specify the size of the completed Dresden Plate. We’re guessing it’s 16″ – 18″ across.
