The Mini Quilt Can be Displayed Without the Card Too!

Treat those special people in your life to this charming birthday card. A festive little quilt with the first line of the “Happy Birthday” song is affixed to the front of a blank note card.

It will be fun to play with colors to create cards customized to each recipient. The mini quilt is also a great opportunity to practice thread sketching.

You may want to use temporary or repositionable tape or glue so the quilt can be removed from the card. You can also omit the card and display the fun little quilt for birthday celebrations.

Hang the mini quilt in an intimate spot where it’s sure to be noticed. Or add borders to enlarge the quilt so it can be used as a mug rug. It would also be fun to lay the mini quilt on the dinner plate of the birthday person as you’re sitting down to enjoy a birthday meal. Or affix it to the top of their gift.

The completed mini quilt is 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″.

Designer Beret Nelson, from On The Trail Creations, has provided additional instructions to ease the construction of this little quilt.

  • You’ll find tips for getting great results and suggestions for saving time by making several at once here.
  • Watch her YouTube video here to see exactly how she creates the binding and affixes the quilt to a note card.
  • Or consider using the single-fold binding method outlined here to minimize bulk while creating a more traditional finish. You may prefer this method if you plan to display the quilt without it being attached to a card.

Beret has many more charming quilt card designs, which you’ll find here.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
