Flying Geese units in gradations of color create movement in this eye-catching quilt. A piano key border is a wonderful finishing touch.

Batiks and tone-on-tone prints create interest and contrast against the background. The quilt will also be wonderful in other colors and fabric styles. Start with a great combination of 10″ layer cake squares and choose a background that sets them off.

Instructions are provided for creating Flying Geese units using the Small Flying Geese Ruler by Quilt in a Day. This is a popular method but go ahead and make units of the appropriate size using whatever method you prefer. You’ll find info about using the ruler and four other methods for making Flying Geese here.

The finished quilt, designed by Betty Gormick for Cut Loose Press, is 72″ x 81″.
