Great for Travel and Kids Love Them!

Quillows have been around for generations and are super easy to make. What is a quillow? It’s a quilt with a pillowcase-type pocket on the back. Fold the quilt into the case and you have a pillow – or quillow.

Because the quilt is folded up into a compact package, a quillow is perfect for travel, picnics, outdoor concerts, car trips and more. Kids also love being able to make their quilts into pillows.

The plushness of the pillow depends on the batting used in the quilt. Thicker battings produce soft and fluffy pillows. For ease of transport, however, thinner battings produce the most compact packages.

Allison from Cluck Cluck Sew shows how to make a quilt into a quillow in her excellent tutorial. Notice that she includes the option of adding a handle. She also shows how to fold the quilt into the case. Even a 7-year-old can do it!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
