You Can Adapt This Pattern To So Many Other Projects!

Simple piecing and big stitch quilting shine in this lovely throw pillow. If you’re new to hand quilting this is the project to start out with. It will stitch together quickly and you’ll have a completed pillow top in no time.

Colorful thread and big hand stitches become part of the overall design of this quilted pillow. If you’re a beginner, once you’ve completed the project you’ll be able to use this lovely quilting technique in many other projects as well.

Big Stitch Pillow Tutorial

The pieced top is simple to put together. Squares and half-square triangles in small-scale prints stitch up quickly and produce a charming top (learn how to make 8 half-square triangles at a time here).

If pillows aren’t your thing, think about what else you could do with this top. Add borders (or not) and make a sweet table topper. Add more squares and make it into a table runner. A wall quilt will be lovely too, as would a full sized quilt (you might consider alternating this block with a background fabric).

The finished pillow is about 18″ x 18″.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
