Use Fat Quarters, Scraps or Quilted Practice Sandwiches!
These little quilted buckets are not only lovely but you’ll find many uses for them around the house. They are simple to make, thrifty in their fabric usage, and provide a wonderful opportunity to practice your free motion (or straight line) quilting.
One fat quarter for the exterior, one for the interior and a third for the cuff will make three baskets. If you prefer that each one be different, you can make them from leftovers in your stash.
You can even use quilted practice pieces for the body of a bucket, as well as leftover strip piecing.

Once completed, use the buckets in the sewing room and elsewhere to corral little odds and ends. They also make wonderful gifts. The designer, Christina from A Few Scraps, says:
“I’ve given them filled with candied nuts, with my homemade granola, with chocolates, with craft supplies, with socks, with flower bulbs…any other ideas? They’re an easy way to both wrap a gift and give a useful handmade container.”
She also has provided a video to show how easily the buckets go together.

Each finished bucket is 4 1/2″ w x 4 1/2″ h x 4 1/2″ d.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!
PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
