There’s a Bonus Standard Log Cabin Block Pattern Too!

While this charming block may make you think of Valentine’s Day, it’s suitable for any time of the year. It’s also lovely in gift projects for many occasions.

Instructions are provided for 3 oversized block sizes. Larger blocks mean you’ll need to make fewer of them for a quilt.

Arrange the blocks in any standard Log Cabin layout for a beautiful quilt (get ideas here) or create your own design. Or finish one block into a table or wall quilt.

We wanted to see the block with stronger contrasts between the lights and darks so we tinkered in Photoshop. Then, of course, we had to try other colors.

Any interpretation of colors and values will be beautiful in this block. Start with a planned color theme or dig into your scraps for a lovely scrappy version. Just be mindful of values and create consistent contrasts between the light and dark sides of your blocks.

The pattern from designer Mariesa Morgan from Ten Cow Quilts provides instructions for the following 3 block sizes: 16″, 18″ and 20″ finished. (16 1/2″, 18 1/2″, and 20 1/2″ unfinished.)

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
