Rag Rug Coasters Are Great for Scraps

Leftover Jelly Rolls Strips Make These a Breeze!
Capture all the charm of old-fashioned rag rugs in these pretty little coasters. Leftover jelly roll strips, or yardage cut into 2 1/2″ strips, are braided just like a rug would be.
A wide zig-zag stitch sews the braids into shape. The coasters are quick, easy, and absorbent for use under beverages.
Each coaster is made from three strips. Make a set of 4 (or more) all the same, or make each one different. It will be fun to see how the fabrics you’ve chosen look once the coasters are completed.
Each coaster, designed by Julie of Six Two Seven Handworks (site no longer available), is 5″ wide.
A second construction method from Michaels starts the same way, by braiding long strips of fabric. However, the coil is secured with a glue gun, and a felt circle is glued to the back. You’ll find those instructions and a downloadable PDF at the following link.
