RickRack Adds a Bit of Whimsy to These Place Mats

Quick, Easy and So Charming!

These cheerful patchwork place mats are a quick project that you’ll love using on your table. Choose a variety of fabric scraps in whatever colors you like best, or select a favorite 5″ charm pack.

The 2 1/2″ squares are quick piecing, even for beginning quilters with basic skills. Once pieced, layer them up, add the rickrack, turn and topstitch.

Patchwork Placemats with RickRack

We love how the jumbo rickrack gives a whimsical touch, making the place mats extra charming.

Plus, they’re so quick and easy that you’ll want to make several.

Notice how designer Joanna Figueroa of Fig Tree & Co. chose rickrack for the top place mat that does not match any of the fabrics. Yet, they look great together. This is an excellent example of how color is often less important than value when selecting fabrics and trim.

The finished place mats are 14″ × 12″ excluding rickrack.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
