Make One or Combine Several for a Pretty Quilt!

This sweet block is perfect for using up some of those 1 1/2″ squares in your scrap bag. Traditionally called “Single Irish Chain”, the sweet colors prompted the designer to call it “Penny Candy.”

Whatever you choose to name yours, select colors that work well together, and choose either a plain background or go with low-volume prints like those shown in the example.

One of these oversized blocks can be finished off into a pretty table or wall quilt. Or combine several for a larger project.

In the photo above the block is on one of Lori’s DIY design boards, showing you how it could look finished off with a border and binding.

The finished block, from Lori Holt from Bee in My Bonnet, isĀ 15 1/2″ square.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
