These Scrappy Place Mats Go Together Quickly
A Great Use of Leftover Pre-Cuts!
Simple piecing makes a delightful set of scrappy patchwork place mats. They go together quickly, so choose colors you love and you’ll soon have a pretty set to accent your table.
Charm squares (5″), jelly roll strips (2 1/2″) and mini charm squares (2 1/2″) can all be put to good use in this project. Select new from a pretty fabric line or use up leftovers in your stash.
Piecing doesn’t get much easier than this. Add strips in a focus color on either side of the pieced block to extend the width and to unify the scrappy look. You may even want to add some rickrack, like in the set below.
The instructions were written for jelly roll strips but can easily be adapted for charm squares and mini charm squares. Slice charm squares in half and proceed as you would with jelly roll strips, or piece mini charm squares individually.
The finished place mats, designed by Sherri from A Quilting Life, are 12 1/2″ x 16 1/2″.
