This Cheerful Cardinals Quilt Is Perfect For Christmas
The Bird Blocks Can Be Use In Other Projects Too!
Festive red Cardinals are beautiful accents for the holidays and four of them flutter around this charming quilt. Use the quilt as a small throw or display it on a wall or table every year for a spot of Christmas cheer.
Whether you choose light and bright colors or more traditional deeper reds and greens, this quilt will be a lovely addition to your holiday decor. The 9″ cardinal blocks can be used in other projects as well.
We played a bit in Photoshop to see the quilt in more traditional colors.
The following Photoshop example imagines a modern gray and red version.
The pattern for this quilt uses templates to cut the pieces for the bird blocks. If you’d prefer rotary cutting Jenn’s Arbor has a pattern available for 9″ and 12″ finished blocks.
The wing configuration is slightly different but can be easily modified to match the one in the quilt (substitute a square background block for the half-square triangle wing piece that points up).
There are also instructions for creating bird blocks without the head crest. Both versions of the bird can face right or left. You can purchase the block pattern here (we were unable to locate a free block pattern).
The quilt designed by Marie Duncan for Coats & Clark and made available by Yarnspirations is 40″ x 40″.
