This Stained Glass Block Glows with Color

Colorful batiks glow against black in this stunning quilt block. It’s large enough to finish into a beautiful small table or wall quilt, or use it as a focal point in a larger quilt.
The block is constructed with folded cutwork and reverse appliqué. While the example is hand-stitched, it could also be carefully machine-sewn with a small zigzag or blanket stitch. The technique may be new to you, but it’s a good one to have in your toolbox.
Batiks work beautifully in this project, as they add texture to the “glass”. Use colors similar to those chosen by the designer or choose a different color palette for equally stunning results.
Designer Audra Rasnake from In The Sanctuary provides instructions for a block that is about 18″ x 18″.
