Turn a Wide Variety of Prints Into a Stunning Quilt

One Simple Block Makes It An Easy Project!
This beautiful quilt began as a block swap and demonstrates how stunning a quilt can be when fabrics are mixed without prior planning. The only specification was that earth-tone colors be used, and that was enough to make the quilt work.
You might try that idea with this quilt and others. Your color palette could be “spring”, “water-tones”, or whatever strikes your fancy.
Then dig into your stash and scraps for anything that fits the theme. This is a great project for those “ugly” prints you don’t know what to do with. In the example quilt, one set of prints could not be used more than seven times, giving the quilt a stunning scrappy look. Clearly, the more fabrics, the better for achieving a look similar to this quilt.
The block is very simple to make, and the quilt is a good project to work on a little at a time. Make a few blocks a day and set them aside until you have enough. Then have fun laying them out in a pleasing arrangement.
Nine blocks in a 3 x 3 grid.
Amber Johnson from Gigi’s Thimble used 224 blocks laid out in a 14 x 16 grid for her quilt. The blocks are 5 1/2″ finished, and the completed quilt is 77 1⁄2” x 88 1⁄2”.
