This Easy Technique Adds Lots of Charm!

Gently rounded corners are a lovely finishing touch for a quilt. This simple technique can take a nice quilt to extraordinary without creating much more work.

One benefit of rounded corners is that you don’t need to miter the corners of the binding. However, you will need to use bias binding. It’s not hard to make your own. You’ll find instructions here and here.

One tip to keep in mind is that larger circles won’t require special attention. Simply stretch the bias binding gently to fit around the curves.

Jenny Wilding Cardon from Martingale recommends using a template or such that is at least 5″ across. This is a nicely sized arc for a larger quilt and is an easy curve to stitch. See her comments here.

For smaller arcs, like in pot holders and other small projects, you’ll find good instructions in the tutorial referenced here.

Nettie from A Quilt is Nice walks you through the steps of making rounded corners in the following tutorial.

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest has featured many patterns from vendors participating in the Craftsy Marketplace, most of which have been deleted by Craftsy. It's going to take awhile for us to hunt down new sources for those patterns. In the meantime there are many links to patterns on our site that no longer work. We apologize if this article contains one or more of those links and appreciate your patience while we straighten things out. Thank you!

PLEASE NOTE: Quilting Digest does not sell or otherwise provide patterns directly. We showcase patterns and projects from various vendors, bloggers and other sources. Please make a note of where you access a pattern (the link in the yellow box toward the end of each Quilting Digest article). That way you can contact Support for that source if you have downloading problems or other issues. Thank you!
