Cut Up a Fabric Panel for a Beautiful Quilt

This Works with Any Large Panel!

Do you have a beautiful fabric panel you want to make into a quilt? This project from Laura at Sew Very Easy produces a lovely quilt by cutting a panel apart and sewing it back together with complementary fabric strips.

Her approach will work with any full sized panel. Plus, it’s highly adaptable. Offset the panel strips like Laura did here, or have them line up horizontally across the top and bottom.

You can also vary the width of the sashing strips. Less width will allow the eye to connect the panel image a bit more easily, or go wider for a more abstract look.

Another option is to play with borders. Do a simple border like Laura did or consider something a bit more elaborate like in the following example.

Laura’s simple approach not only yields a beautiful quilt but it’s a super easy project you can have finished in just a few hours. It also enlarges a panel into a throw-sized quilt.

For Laura’s version, you’ll need one panel and 2 yards of matching fabric for strips, plus a border fabric.
