Two Ways to Reduce Bulk in the Corners of Binding
Use One or Both for Flat, Long-Wearing Corners!
Does your binding lay flat until you get to the corners? There’s so much fabric there that they can’t help but be a bit lumpy. Bulky corners don’t wear as well as flat ones do, and they don’t always look neat, either.
In the following video Susan Cleveland shows how she achieves flatter corners. It’s an easy fix that simply involves how you fold the corners to miter them. It’s a great tip that won’t add time to finishing your quilt.

Also, consider the method used by Susan from QuiltFabrication. She actually snips 4 layers of fabric out of the corners.
Take a good look at her instructions before you’re ready to do your next binding. It may be hard to visualize this, even with Susan’s great pictures. But once you have a binding project in front of you, you’ll be able to identify that little 4-layer triangle that can safely be snipped away.
