Give Pinwheels a Fresh New Look
One Quilt Pattern With Two Personalities – It’s All In The Fabric!
Modern fabrics give a whole new look to the basic pinwheel quilt in the “Pinwheels on Parade” quilt. The polka dot background, plus the large lattice patterned fabric in the border on two ends, give scrappy pinwheels a fresh new look.
The quilt is made entirely of pinwheel blocks and sashing. Once you get into a rhythm with half-square triangles this quilt will go together very quickly.
In fact, you can speed the process even more by using this tutorial for making 8 half-square triangles at a time.
This basic idea – pinwheel blocks, sashing and interesting borders – can take on so many different looks depending on the fabrics you choose.
The following quilt, by the maker at A and H Crafts, uses more traditional fabrics in beautiful colors. Isn’t it gorgeous?
You can replicate the quilt by using fewer pinwheel blocks and changing up the borders. While we don’t have exact instructions, it won’t be hard to use the “Pinwheels on Parade” pattern as the base and create borders similar to those shown in the photo above.
The pattern for “Pinwheels on Parade” by Red Pepper Quilts is for a quilt that is 54.5″ x 75″. The finished size can be very easily modified by adjusting the number of pinwheel blocks.
