An Updated Pattern for a Vintage Patchwork Quilt
Use Leftover Fabrics and Give This Quilt Your Own Color Twist!
It’s nothing short of amazing how many “looks” can be achieved with this quilt pattern. Blocks of patchwork surrounded by triangle blocks create a stunning overall design. Emphasize the triangles, the patchwork, or a balance of both, depending on the fabrics you choose.
Jelly roll strips, charm squares and leftover fabric scraps are perfect for the scrappy center blocks. Choose coordinating colors or mix it up. Give the design structure by choosing white and a color, or two contrasting colors, for the triangle blocks.
We must confess, we hesitated a minute when we realized the designers recommend paper piecing for this quilt top. Many quilters shy away from that, even though it helps you achieve perfect points every time.
However, you could do all straight piecing, if you prefer, or a combination of straight piecing and paper piecing (experienced quilters shouldn’t have any trouble adapting the instructions). Whatever method works best for you is worth doing for this stunning quilt, even if it takes a bit longer.

- Trenta – 84″ x 100″
- Venti – 68″ x 84″
- Grande – 52″ x 68″
- Tall – 36″ x 36″
